Schiemann Guitars aims to make custom guitars that serve the needs of the player. I strive to provide a custom shop experience that allows players to imagine and design their dream guitar.

I have always loved objects that are both beautiful and functional. Like most, I had dreams of being on stage and playing guitar. Overtime, I found that I was spending more time stripping the paint off of my guitars and refinishing them, playing around with different wiring options, and reconfiguring the pickups than I was actually sitting down playing the guitar. I learned that my love for the guitar is really more about how I can make an instrument that produces quality sound while also looking like a work of art.

I live in Fuquay-Varina North Carolina - a beautiful small town outside of Raleigh that is growing by the minute. The sprawling tobacco fields are slowly being replaced by new build homes. Lately, I have been trying to preserve some of the lost history by using the wood from the old tobacco barns as the bodies of the guitars. The wood is typically old growth pine, occassionally ash. The wood is ripe with character - nail holes, splits, dents, scratches, and all the history of what the barn has been through over the last ~75 to 100 years. Sometimes, the builds are left natural, sometimes the builds are painted in high gloss nitrocellulose lacquer. They may have an intricate pattern layered over the front that is juxtaposed with a bared wood back while other times they are painted and distressed to match the feeling of the wood.

All builds start with an idea. If you are interested in building your dream guitar, join me in a conversation about what the next build should look like.
